Gorbachev compares proposed U.S. border wall to Berlin Wall…because he’s insane
Addressing a Tuesday news conference at UTPB's Center for Energy and Economic Diversification, the JBS Public Leadership Institute Distinguished Lecture Series speaker was by turns serious and flippant prior to a reception with more than 100 people.
"You remember President Reagan standing in Berlin and saying, 'This wall should be torn down,'" said the 1990 Nobel Peace Prize winner. "Now the United States seems to be building almost the Wall of China between itself and this other nation with which it has been associated for many decades and has had cooperation and interaction with.
I’m not sure why I have to explain this little story but I guess I will. Apparently, Gorbachev thinks the wall that the Soviet Union built to keep its people IN east Germany (after they essentially stole half the country and forced the East Germans to become communists) is the same thing as the US building a wall to keep Mexican citizens out of the country. US citizens can come and go as they please and Mexican citizens can come in whenever they want if they fill out some papers and promise not to blow up our stuff. This is not at all anything like the Berlin wall and I can’t say it any better than that. While I’m explaining things, however, I may as well explain why people all over the world say stupid things like this every day and get away with it.
Everybody hates a winner.
Ever notice why as soon as the Yankees or the Cowboys start winning, people come out of the woodwork to say they don’t deserve it and they can’t wait for them to lose?…same thing. Countries all over the world are just itching to criticize the US no matter what we do. I’m not saying we don’t screw up because we do. We just don’t screw up any more than anyone else does but hey, maybe someday we’ll fall flat on our faces and Europe and Asia will come to our aid: Case in point, the earthquake in Hawaii. If it weren’t for those emergency cases of pineapple shaped cups and ukuleles that Malaysia sent, who knows how bad things would be out there?
